Pirates in Paradise Travel to Key West

If you hurry, you can still catch the annual Pirates in Paradise Festival that includes spiritual descendents of famous pirates like Blackbeard, Calico jack Rackham, Anne Bonny, and Captain Jack Sparrow.

The show is designed to appeal to both adults and children and usually draws buccaneer lovers and re-enactors to this island city that is known for its seafaring history. The festival begins on November 29th and continues through December 2nd.

The events of the festival include plank-walking, historical pirate encampments, sailing adventures aboard tall ships, pirate attacks, pirates’ antics for the children, and a recreation on stage of the trial of Anne Bonny and Mary Read.

Following the plank-walking competition, buccaneers will say goodbye to the Atlantic basin hurricane season with a party to commemorate. Buccaneers and real-life National Weather Service meteorologists will destroy traditional hurricane symbols.

Following the end of hurricane season party is the Conch Republic Pirate’s Shipwreck Ball. Fans of Blackbeard, Sparrow, and other famous pirates can meet their spiritual descendents at the Pirate Fest, Pirate Pub, and Village Thieves Market between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. November 30th through December 2nd at Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park. Living history pirate encampments will glance into the lifestyle of the buccaneer.

For those who are interested in the history of pirates and their lives, this festival is must for you to attend. There are plenty of events that will appeal to both adults and children and activities that give visitors some first-hand information on the buccaneering lifestyle of past centuries.
